Personality:
In order to understand who Yuna currently is and how much of her personality has changed and what she has gone through to get here, we must first talk about who Yuna was for the longest time and what has happened to her. Daughter of a human and an Al Bhed, Yuna's birth brought about a tolerance to the interracial relationship her parents had. Her mother passed away at a young age as well as her father (who lost his life as a Summoner), so Yuna was sent off pretty early on to live in Besaid Island under the care of Kihmari Ronso. Here she formed close friendships and bonds with Lulu, Wakka, and Chapu, forming a more positive view of the world. Since Yuna was able to pass as human, she did not grow up suffering too much hatred or disdain for being mixed race, so she did not become resentful of Spira and its people (unlike Seymour Guado who also is mixed race). With the knowledge that her father had sacrificed himself to save the people of Spira from Sin, and trying to find her place in the world, it is during these years in Besaid that she decides to give up her life to become a summoner. 

Someone who becomes a summoner has to be very devoted to the training, have a strong-will, be kind, caring, patient, self-sacrificing, and form a deep emotional bond with the Aeons in order to summon them. Yuna embodied (and still does) all of these traits; for a young child to decide to give up their teenage years to become a summoner and willingly die to save their planet is one of the most difficult tasks imaginable. However for Yuna, having the support of her close bonds and wanting to live up to her father's heroism, was enough to push her to complete this goal. It is during this time in her pilgrimage that we get to see how soft-spoken Yuna was, how caring, tender, and even submissive she could be. She begins her journey wanting to connect with the temples and take each one gifts, but is quickly scolded. In this scene alone we can see a bit more of her naiveness  that comes with age, something she shows often throughout her journey. 

Her submissiveness and willingness to do whatever it takes also becomes a big issue in her pilgrimage; unsure and wanting to make the people of Spira happy, Yuna even considered marrying Seymour Guado to bring peace to the different fractions that make up Spira. Even if it was severely opposed by the others, Yuna was still willing to go through with it (as she planned on finishing her pilgrimage either way). Perhaps it was a result of growing up sheltered in Besaid, but her submissiveness and inability to stand up for herself most likely resulted from years of having to train to be a summoner and knowing full well she could die at anytime. The world of Spira was under constant threat of destruction from Sin, people often loosing their parents at young ages due to it, and/or dying young themselves. This was something she saw happen to those around her, specifically to Lulu who lost her boyfriend Chappu to Sin. Seeing and living through this traumatic world would naturally bring most to the conclusion that the world was better off destroyed, but not Yuna- instead she used these memories and pain as fuel to motivate her to become a summoner. 

We also see more of her personality in her journey when she meets Tidus, a castaway who claimed to be from Zanarkand. Tidus joins Yuna in her journey throughout Spira eventually becoming her guardian upon her approval. She takes an instant liking to this man who shows her how to relax and enjoy life. He helps her laugh throughout the entire journey, keeps her company, and helps ease her mind about her ultimate death. We see Yuna flirting with him, making jokes, speaking fondly of him, and explaining to him how much she cared about his father. Tidus' father is almost like a father to Yuna; with her being immensely grateful to him (and by proxy Tidus) about him being a guardian to her own father. Tidus is such a ray of light to her that she keeps from him something important- the fact that at the end of her journey, she will die. Tidus would tell her that they would go to Zanarkand together, see the bright lights, and defeat Sin and do things together after, all while she just smiled knowing that if they got to Zanarkand, she would die. Here we see her reason for it was to prevent him from getting hurt, something that falls on him rather harshly. Eventually the two fall deeply in love with each other, supporting each other more intimately towards the end of Yuna's journey. 

The major changes in Yuna's personality begin to show around the end of X, when it is revealed that Yevon (the religion of Spira) is willingly keeping the unsent alive, perpetuating an endless cycle of death (by keeping Sin alive and lying to people about its true nature), and encouraging racial tensions by lying about the use of Machina (Al Bhed are hated by most of Spira because of their connection to Machina and going against Yevon's teachings). Upon realizing that everything Yuna believed in was a lie, she became very disillusioned with herself and her knowledge. She was ready to give up, but with the support of Kihmari and Tidus, she was able to makeup her mind in finding a way to defeat sin and confront the religious leaders who controlled Spira. Previously Yuna would have submitted and gone through with giving up her life, but here, waking up to what the world really was about (and metaphorically growing up), decided to stand up for herself and the people of Spira. 

So who is Yuna now? Living in a world post-Sin, many people sought out to finally live their lives and enjoy being able to grow old. New religions formed, Yevon reformed itself, the young joined either new groups or became sphere hunters, and the old (afraid to let go of the past) stuck to the religion of Yevon. With all of this turmoil going on in Spira, Yuna, the first living summoner who has defeated sin, had a lot of pressure placed on her. In between the events of X and X-2, Yuna is shown traveling from location to location, giving speeches on moving forward and fighting on. However this didn't suit the former summoner- having to deal with suddenly being alive and having to have goals, as well as having the courage to live for Tidus (who had disappeared), Yuna decided it was time to live her own life. She became a sphere hunter in search of a way to find/bring back Tidus, and decided to live her life the way she wants to. 

With a new outfit and bolder personality, Yuna is shown to be more flirty and cocky, show-boating at times during battle. With her more flashy outfit, she isn't afraid to take up more of the room, and speak more freely. Previously she had been rather meek, trying to take up as little space as possible. Now we see her do things like flips, shoot at (human) enemies with ease, and suggest things for the Gullwings to do (her sphere hunter group). With the help of Rikku who also insisted Yuna carve her own path, she becomes someone who becomes determined in two things; living her life the way she wanted to and finding Tidus. 

Throughout the series, we see Yuna express herself more- whether it's joy, happiness, or frustration, she doesn't keep it to herself anymore. She also becomes a lot more playful, a trait she only showed to Tidus previously. Here she willingly wears a mascot costume to hide herself during a concert Leblanc was holding (while disguised as Yuna), runs around Luca and boasts about defeating Leblanc and getting back her dress-sphere. It is in the same scene that we see Yuna standing up for herself, no longer allowing herself to be used by anyone or any organization. She is quick to demand her dress-sphere back from Leblanc and her goons, and several times throughout the series she refuses to do things that may infringe upon her new freedom. Instead she opts to volunteer for things, playfully suggesting there's a price behind it. 

Being someone who can finally have a personality and live a life she wants to, Yuna is still new to having her own traits and quirks. As such she looks up to her cousin Rikku as a role model and often tends to mimic her. She will say the same quirky expressions, do the same poses, and has even gotten in touch with her Al Bhed roots. However Yuna's imitations aren't limited to Rikku- she is also very fond of Tidus and seeks to emulate him. Keeping many mementos of him on her (styling her hair the same way as his, wearing the Zanarkand Abe's logo on her chest, and using his sword in battle), she tends to try and do what he would in situations. He has had the most profound effect on her, causing her not only to adore him with her heart but also be the kind of person he would approve of. 

While overall it seems she is more out of her shell, Yuna still exhibits the same traits she had growing up and can sometimes fall back into bad habits. One example of her falling into a bad habit was when she fell into the Farplane and met Shuyin, a young man who looks similar to Tidus (and has a grudge against Spira and plans on destroying it). Distraught by the fact that he was not Tidus, she remained still and silent as he reached out to hold her, thinking she was his lover. Here we see her submissive, shy side come out again, however she doesn't take it well after. Becoming more outspoken throughout the series, she is quick to run around screaming, angry at the entire scene once it is reveled Shuyin isn't alive and that she was able to feel his lover's feelings through her dress-sphere.  She no longer enjoys being confused and kept in the dark, demanding answers in this brave new world she is in. 

Key themes: Trying to discover her own place in the world/discovery (after giving up her life to fight Sin, she is know discovering the things she likes and how to stand up for herself), friendship (keeping close ties with others), and self-sacrifice (putting the needs of others before one-self), peace (trying to establish peace between the new fractions and religions that are in Spira post-Sin) and love. 

Main Motivation: Currently her main motivation is to find a way to bring back Tidus to life or to find him, as well as to help keep him safe. Previously her motivation was to stop sin and bring peace to the people of Spira, and while that has been accomplished, there is a new threat to Spira, she still isn't aware of the details completely. 

Skills:
Yuna has numerous skills throughout the series, with the previous one being able to summon the Fayth and use them to fight Fiends and ultimately Sin. While she still has the same abilities during her original pilgrimage, some are now more influenced or caused by the Dress-Spheres (outfits she can use to transform into different classes). 

Some of her base powers (outside of the dress-spheres) include: 

White Magic: 

• Cure - being able to heal those around her 
• Null - being able to nullify dark magic such as fire, water, etc. 
• Esuna - removing negative status effects 
• Life - being able to bring characters out of K'O status 
• Holy - elemental damage to enemies 

Black Magic: 

• Fire 
• Thunder 
• Water 
• Blizzard 
• Flare - extreme non-elemental magic 
• Ultima - non-elemental magic 

There is one interesting thing to note- with her songstress dress-sphere, Yuna seems to be able to invoke and feel the previous owner's emotions and thoughts (Lenne). This is shown when she is hugged by Shuyin (Lenne's former lover), being able to feel her feelings for the man.

while she had never seen such a thing as a train, it felt primitive in comparison to the airship she had gotten used to back home. thankfully she wasn't aboard all alone, but she was rather concerned about leaving the gullwings all alone. without her, who knows what they may do. with a soft sigh, yuna turned towards her device and began to speak. )

It's been an awfully long time now, since we've been allowed to get off hasn't it?

I'm starting to get worried we'll be stuck on here forever. There was something I was growing interested in-

Has anyone been here long enough to actually stop in their world? Do you think it's even possible? I suppose.....I don't have much waiting for me back home but I'd like to be able to say goodbye properly if I'm going to be here much longer.

( with tidus being in the same train as she was, there wasn't much of a need to go back home. yet despite the turmoil spira was in again, she felt she had to go home and do something about shuyin and his cryptic words. )
